It is located in the sub-district of Loa Janan, district of Kutai Kartanegara, province of East Kalimantan, and it was officially declared in July 2000 by the governor of East Kalimantan.
The total area of BAT object is 35 hectares, filled by various plants, for example ornamental plants, fruits, medicinal plants, and other rare plants. To enter BAT area, you do not need to pay any fees. BAT garden has about 914 kinds of plants that include fruits and vegetables. Specifically, the number of the fruit plants in this garden is 50 kinds from 75 varieties. Many fruits can be found there, such as durians, lychees, zalaccas, elais, and guavas. This BAT garden has become a conservation garden and a place for germ plasma collection in special horticultural plants. You may eat the fruits in the garden for free, but you have to buy the lychees if you want to take them home with you. The lychees cost Rp 4,000 per kg. You can enjoy some facilities in the area, such as a jogging track, a camping area, and a fishing pond. Fishing is free of charge, but taking the fish home costs you around Rp 30,000 per kg. Also, there is a verandah available to be used as a resting place and a prayer place.
To get to Batuah Agro (BAT) from Samarinda (the capital city of East Kalimantan), it takes about 50 minutes. And the travel from Balikpapan (a city next to Samarinda) to BAT takes about 75 minutes by car or public transport.

SANGALAKI ISLAND

 

Not many people know that in the northern part of East Kalimantan province, that is in Berau district, there are many beautiful islands called Derawan Islands. These islands consist of 28 small islands, and one of the islands is Sangalaki Island.

Sangalaki Island is a small island that covers an area of 13 hectares. You can go around the island in only 30 minutes by walking slowly. All along your walk, you can see the beach with its white sand and beautiful sea. Also, every day you can enjoy watching the incredible sunrise and sunset. You can get to Sangalaki Island by air and land. To get there by land, you go from Samarinda towards Tanjung Redeb in a distance of about 700 km. You can also rent a car for Rp 3 million for return trip. The public transport available is a bus that seats 25 passengers and costs Rp 125,000 per passenger.

Sangalaki Island is also famous for its sea turtles. Every night and all year round, 10-30 turtles nest on this island. To see and enjoy this sight, you must spend the night on the island because the turtles do their activities at night. Another interesting thing about the island is that there is aggregation of manta ray fish. There are many things you can do on the island such as Diving and Snorkeling, Wild Animal Watching, Tracking, and Swimming. How about the facilities on the island? Sangalaki Island has 12 units of cottage, restaurants/cafetaria, and kiosks that sell souveniers. A cottage room rate is $50 per night

To enjoy your visit at Sangalaki Island you need to spend relatively much money, but the tour experience that you get there is really worth it.
