UJUNG GENTENG, West Java

ujung genteng 300x225 UJUNG GENTENG, West JavaSukabumi is a district and city in West Java province. About 120 kilometers from the city lies an interesting tourist object called Ujung Genteng. Its beach is still very clean and natural, and it has a unique attraction for tourists to visit it.
In some parts of the Ujung Genteng beach there are some areas which are very good to play around and relax underwater. This is because the water is not deep, even when it is during high tide. Besides, there are no big waves. To the east of Ujung Genteng, there is a place used as a fish market. The market is always busy between 5 and 9 am. Fish are sold at lower prices and they are fresh from the sea, caught by the local fishermen. Part of Ujung Genteng is a place called Pangumbahan. It is a unique place for tourists to visit because you can see many sea turtles laying eggs at the beach. They are the green turtles from the sea that can live more than 100 years and grow to be as heavy as 200 kilograms and as long as 1 meter. Each green turtle can lay up to 200 eggs.
Fifteen kilometers from Pangumbahan is a place called Ombak Tujuh (the Seven Waves). This is a good place for tourists to surf. Muara Cipanarikan is another interesting place to visit at Ujung Genteng. It is the place where Cipanarikan river meets the sea. The meeting spot turns into an interesting area of sand. The area is wide and of fine sand, perfect for children to play and make sand castles. Last but not least is a part of Ujung Genteng beach called Cibuaya that is good for swimming and relaxing underwater. Rates of inn and hotel rooms at Ujung Genteng vary from Rp 75,000 to Rp 350,000.

GUNUNG BROMO, East Java

gunung bromo 300x225 GUNUNG BROMO, East JavaIn East Java province, there is Mount Bromo (Gunung Bromo), one of the active volcanoes in the province and that has become a famous tourist object. The mountain is 2,392 meters above sea level. It lies in four regions or districts: Malang, Lumajang, Pasuruan, and Probolinggo. The mountain has a ‘sea of sand’, that is a 10-square- kilometer-wide area of sand.
Mount Bromo (gunung bromo)  is famous for its extremely beautiful natural mountainous landscape and view. The mount has a crater with a diameter of 800 meters (from north to south) and 600 meters (from east to west), while its danger area around the crater is within the radius of two kilometers. In order to go up Mount Bromo (gunung bromo) from Malang city, you have to rent a car and its driver. During the trip you will go through narrow and winding roads with cliffs on their sides. Therefore, make sure that you hire an experienced and reliable driver. From Malang, it takes around two hours to get to Mount Bromo. On the mountain location you can also rent a 4-wheel-drive hardtop Jeep that costs you about Rp 260,000. To get into the mountain area you must pay Rp 4,500 per person.
To enjoy the sunrise view and the cold weather of the mountain, you have to get up as early as 4 or 5 o’clock in the morning. Usually the sunrise is seen from the mountain (gunung bromo)between 04.30 and 05.30 in the morning. After enjoying the sunrise, you  can walk down the mountain towards the sea of sand by riding a horse that can be rented for Rp50,000. You ride the horse to go to and from the sea of sand. UJUNG KULON

Ujung Kulon National Park 300x225 UJUNG KULONUjung Kulon has a national park or “Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon” that is attractive to many tourists. It is located in the Banten province, the western-most part of Java. To get there from Jakarta it is a 90 minute drive through the toll road of Jakarta-Serang.

The park has been known by researchers and botanists from the Netherlands and the United Kingdom since 1820. The Ujung Kulon National Park has been a representative of tropical rain forest ecosystem and an ideal habitat for the rare Javanese rhinoceros (Rhinoceros sondaicus) and other wild animals such as bulls (Bos javanicus) and leopards (Panthera pardus). There are three ecosystems in the park: sea waters ecosystem, swamp ecosystem, and land ecosystem. In the park there are also about 700 kinds of plants that are protected by the government; 57 kinds of the plants are categorized as rare. The other wild animals found in the park consist of 35 kinds of mammals, 5 kinds of primates, 59 kinds of reptiles, 22 kinds of amphibians, 240 kinds of birds, 72 kinds of insects, 142 kinds of fish, and 33 kinds of coral reefs. The Ujung Kulon National Park is an interesting tourist object and it has beautiful natural waterfalls, rivers, white sand beach, hot water springs, and cultural historical heritage such as Ganesha Statue on Mount Raksa Pulau Panaitan. All the beauty of the park is hard to find elsewhere in the world. The local people inhabiting around Ujung Kulon are called Banten people who are very famous for their magic power called “debus”. They are actually Muslims, but they still strongly hold on to the customs, traditions, and cultures that they inherit from their ancestors.

Ujung Kulon’s white sand beaches are perfected by beautiful coral reefs and clear sea water ideal for snorkeling, diving, and swimming. The best time of the year to visit Ujung Kulon is between April and September.
